Static QR codes do not expire
Many “free” generators create dynamic QR codes. The code points to their server, which then redirects to your page. When the trial ends, the redirect is switched off and the codes on your menus, flyers and signs stop working until you pay for a subscription.
This tool creates static codes: your link or data is written directly into the code. It keeps working as long as the destination exists and does not depend on us or any other service. The only trade-off is that the content cannot be changed later, so for large print runs use an address you control, such as yoursite.com/menu.
Where QR codes pay off
- Restaurants and cafés: menu on the table, Wi-Fi without spelling out the password, and a Google review QR code on the receipt.
- Holiday rentals: Wi-Fi code in the apartment, house rules, arrival instructions and a direct-booking link for the next stay.
- Salons, clinics and trades: a contact card (vCard) on your business card that saves to the phone in one tap.
- Flyers, posters and vehicles: a link to your offer or to WhatsApp for a quick enquiry.
Preparing a QR code for print
- Size: at least 2 × 2 cm on business cards and about 3 cm on tables and flyers. For posters scanned from a distance, make the code at least a tenth of the scanning distance.
- Contrast: dark code on a light background. Some older phones cannot read inverted codes.
- Quiet zone: keep the white border around the code. The tool adds it, so do not crop it.
- File type: send SVG to the printer, as it stays sharp at any size. PNG is fine for web, social media and Word.
- Logo on top: choose the highest error correction and test with several phones.
Measuring scans
A static code does not count scans, but Google Analytics can. Add UTM tags to the link before you create the code, for example ?utm_source=flyer&utm_medium=qr. Build the tagged link with our UTM builder and your reports will show how many visits came from each flyer, table or poster.
